Commissioned by NationSwell, Quite Frankly produced this series for Johnson & Johnson, aimed at illuminating the crucial issue of diverse representation in medical literature.
"Illustrate Change" was an initiative celebrating J&J's recent advancements towards making medical documentation more inclusive.
This project centred on real stories from individuals from traditionally underrepresented communities in medical literature. A cook with knee pain, a grandmother with psoriasis and a pregnant mother were interviewed and their quotes were transformed into powerful scripts. These stories, read by actors to maintain privacy while conveying the depth of real emotions, formed the backbone of our animated series.
For the visual representation, we partnered with celebrated New York artist Shanée Benjamin whose striking illustrations captured the essence of each narrative. These artworks were animated to add dynamic movement and were paired with original music and sound design. They were crafted specifically to enhance the emotional impact of each story, creating a distinctive and authentic tone.
Through “Illustrate Change,” Johnson & Johnson not only acknowledged the need for diversity but actively contributed to reshaping the landscape of medical education. This campaign underscored the transformative power of visual art and storytelling in promoting significant societal change.
